![]() ![]() While on the surface, including a character like Riri Williams in Wakanda Forever isn’t a fatally doomed prospect, the way she’s introduced into the plot is incredibly forced. Instead of being a fully fleshed-out person who the audience can become invested in, Riri (who is played by Dominique Thorne) is instead treated like a plot device for all the various characters and factions in the film to fight over, similar to the way the Infinity Stones were used in the Infinity Saga. ![]() However, despite Riri’s debut in Wakanda Forever clearly being intended to generate excitement for her own show and subsequent appearances in future team-ups, the way she’s used in the movie runs counter to that goal. It had to be the next blockbuster installment in one of Marvel’s most important franchises, a touching tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, and a launchpad for the next phase of the ongoing MCU saga. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now in theaters, and the much-anticipated sequel had many roles it needed to fill.
